I can’t leave work behind entirely so I combined fun with a little work during my sabbatical in Germany.
A delightful lunch of German meat loaf, potato salad and beer in one of the cozy Bavarian pubs with Heinz Arnold of Markt & Technik while roaring storms soaked the beer garden outside. But what matters is the company and Heinz is certainly one of the good professionals and his insights are a good way to sense the situation. His publishing house is also reacting to the downturn of advertising dollars with travel restrictions for staff. Cost cutting at all cost.
This is very frustrating for editors who want to provide their readers with news, analysis and industry trends.
Holger Heller, editor at ElektronikPraxis was my date for coffee and German cake. It is still pouring when we meet at the Marienplatz darting to a typical Bavarian coffee house. Hard to decide what to enjoy but we settled on strudel and plum datschi with lots of whipped cream! There goes the diet…
Holger shares similar measures at his publishing house. Travel restrictions, online content must be provided by print editors as well and in addition forums, congresses or workshops should be planned, implemented and hosted by editors. Too much, says Holger but he also confirms he and his colleagues do all they can weather this crisis.
What does this mean for Globalpress? For 23 years, the upcoming Europress for Electronics in October is THE event for European journalists to gather news, trends and often meet Silicon Valley start-ups they would otherwise not meet.
Both, Holger and Heinz, will attend the tour in October and said to me as I said to them: we keep serving the industry together and will do so for many more years.
