Irmgard Lafrentz comments on In China Press, Best Coverage Cash Can Buy
By DAVID BARBOZA
--- I am so glad none of my Chinese editorial contacts have ever asked me for bribes. We are in the technoligy industry and not consumer/Esquire. Globalpress Connection is small, Olgivy is big!
A little observation:
Working with Chinese/ Asian media for almost 20 years I am fully aware of different business practises. Just last week we had the discussion with Asian and European editors. Editors from the UK tell me that they can't care less about their advertising department, in Germany some publications don't cover editorial from companies who don't advertise (but don't charge), Italy is more or less subtle.
Chinese editors think all of us here in the US are rich.
In our media segment (electronics) are issues too: if the Chief Editor is also the Publisher their is a problem. Chasing news and good stories and advertising money at the same time, must lead to some tough decision making. Some publications ignore non-advertisers which is their right. There are many different levels to be looked at but what matters is what buyers and sellers want to achieve and how they agree to achieve it. To blame the media, even Esquire, is not right.
Summary: the international editors that I work with for over 25 years have never asked or implied that they want to be compensated for editorial. I am so blessed to work with editors who value my and their integrety.
